Easter Series: A Matter of Time
Throughout this Easter series, we'll be talking about how time changes things and how we change with it. How the world changes and how we as a church need to keep adapting to what the world needs next. How the neighborhood needs us to change who we are or what we do while not compromising what we believe/general ethos. The act of living as people of faith never ceases to keep us on our toes, so to speak, and time keeps pressing on. How will we move with it?

Lenten Series: Roll Down Justice
In-Person & Online
Sundays at 10:30 a.m.
Lent is a time of reminding ourselves who we are called to be in this world. Our Lenten series is inspired by Amos, a prophet whose message is that God calls us to let “justice roll down like waters.” Worship without justice is not acceptable, rather our songs must move us to action on behalf of the oppressed. Through the powerful music of Mark Miller and the remembrance of our rituals of baptism (the origins of Lent), this season will offer us reflection and renewed inspiration to let our voices be turned to the heart of the Gospel – proclaiming God’s love for all people. What prejudices are we challenged to “give up” as a Lent practice of abstinence, and further, how are we willing to “give” of ourselves for the sake of the world?

Epiphany Season
Who Are You?
January 8 - February 19
The question of “who are you” often starts with a name. In the scriptures, people begin to describe Jesus by many names–Rabbi, Messiah, Lamb of God—as they tried to understand who this special person was. What descriptors do you want to be known with? Who has God called you to be?

Advent Season
Reflecting the Sacred
November 27, 2022 - January 1, 2023
The Christmas season is a time when the juxtaposition of the sacred and secular feels sometimes blatantly opposed, and sometimes quite blurred. The word “sacred” points to something dedicated as “holy” and “set apart.” This year, you are invited to a spiritual journey of seeing ALL things pregnant with the Holy. What could our experience of the Advent and Christmas season be like if we lived it imagining that everything is reflecting the sacred?

Lenten Series
"Good Enough: Embracing the Imperfections of Life & Faith"
March 6 – April 17
The liturgical season of Lent developed over the centuries as a time of deepened reflection... a time for all Christians to take stock of their lives and examine how the connection to their faith was progressing–or not–and to recommit to a life of goodness. This year we will indeed open up and take stock. But rather than feel guilty (a popular Lenten pastime) about what we haven’t accomplished in our lives and faith, we will spend some time questioning how our culture’s obsession with achievement and perfection actually keeps us from the true depths of life and faith. Inspired by the book written by Kate Bowler, this Lent, we’ll take some time to turn ladder-climbing into garden-tending, nurturing our souls and embracing our holy, “good enough,” lives.

Advent-Christmas Series: "Close to Home"
November 28 – January 2
During the Advent and Christmas season, we journey through scriptures and rituals that are tender, heavy with emotion, and vulnerable. We carry the memories and truths of this season close to our hearts. Our worship series "Close to Home" acknowledges the “already but not yet” tension of our faith: Emmanuel is with us, and yet, God’s promised day—our everlasting home—is not fully realized. It names our deep longing for God to come close to us.

"On the Mend: Bringing Wholeness to Your Life"
August 29 – October 24
In this worship series titled "On the Mend: Bringing Wholeness to Your LIfe," the image we have chosen is a ceramic bowl repaired using the Japanese repair technique called kintsugi; the artist uses gold lacquer to repair cracks or join broken shards of a vessel. The vessel becomes even more beautiful for having been broken. The lectionary readings for this Fall offer many stories of Jesus healing and speaking about what brings wholeness. Together we will uncover the wounds that hold us back from the fullness of life. Join us as we move out of old ways of being into new possibilities!

"Quest: Travel as a Spiritual Act"
July 25 – August 22
Whether you travel far away or check out local surroundings as if for the first time, pilgrimage has long been a spiritual practice, and "journey" a deeply felt metaphor for our spiritual lives. "Quest" comes from the Latin root meaning "ask, seek." This 4-week worship series will encourage us to open ourselves more fully to the curiosity and wonder, reflection and transformation that travelers experience when they choose to immerse themselves in soul-widening adventures.

"The Heart of the Matter"
April 4 – May 23
The life and death of Jesus had one strong message that was both overt and inherent: love one another. The heart of the matter was love. Ziggy Marley sings, “Love is my religion...with you I share the gift, the gift we now know.” Time and again we hear Jesus offer the disciples a postresurrection message of empowerment to give to the world what he had given to them. This Easter Season we will encourage one another to truly live out the heart of the matter.

"Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places"
February 21 – March 28
The lectionary for Lent in Year A offers many images of where love, grace, forgiveness, righteousness, healing, can REALLY be found. And usually it is not in the “usual” places. Isn’t it as true of us today as it was of the scriptural authors? Don’t we often look for wholeness and happiness (love) in places that offer only temporary “good feelings” and satisfaction? Lent is a wonderfully reflective time to re-assess where we are searching for meaning, for “redemption.” We’ll move through the lectionary to find out who offers the “real deal.”

"Who Are You?"
January 3 - February 14
The beginning of a new calendar year is a time when we often reassess direction and ask questions yet again about who we are and where we are going in life. We make resolutions, we sign up at the gym (again), we vow to be better people. This year we will take a deep journey into the question, “Who Are You?” We will discover that “who we are” is indelibly linked to “Whose we are.” What amazing things could happen if you lived into your best, most passionate, loving self? Let’s find out what transformations can happen in just 9 weeks!

"Angels Among Us"
November 29 - December 27
The angels that appear in the story of Jesus’ birth would have been very comfortable in our world of tweets and hashtags. Their messages were often short and to the point–their favorite line being #DoNotBeAfraid. As we look at the stories of these winged messengers to Zechariah, Mary, Joseph and the Shepherds and their reactions to them, we will contemplate what messages we can offer that will counteract a culture of fear and bring #morehope, #morepeace, #morejoy, and #morelove to the world.

"For the Sake of Life"
October 18 - November 22
"I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live."
— Deuteronomy 30:19b
This is a season of saying “yes” to life. This is a season of noticing the flourishing and abundant life all around us. This we do instead of focusing on what isn’t working. In the picture on the book that inspired this series, there is a (beautiful) dying leaf in water. Are we focused on the dying of the leaf and its disconnection to its source? Or do we notice that it is carried along by water teeming with life — signs of renewal? Saying “yes” to life in Christ offers us the opportunity to see the assets that create possibility and that create new ways of flourishing together in this world.

"A Future With Hope"
July 26 - October 4
"For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope."
— Jeremiah 29:11
The image of a tree and the progression of the growth of living things offers a way to focus on our own growth as the people of God: who we are and what we are called to do and be. In a time when hope is needed so desperately by so many, it is good to be reminded that not everything is a “quick fix” and patience is sometimes needed. We plant the seeds for a “Future with Hope” and wait in the knowledge that God is always present.
