1 Let's walk together for a while
and ask where we begin
to build a world where love can grow
and hope can enter in,
to be the hands of healing
and to plant the seed of peace,
singing welcome, welcome to this place.
You're invited to come and know God's grace.
All are welcome the love God to share
'cause all of us are welcome here;
all are welcome in this place.

2 Let's talk together of a time
when we will share a feast,
where pride and power kneel to serve
the lonely and the least,
and joy will set the table
as we join our hands to pray,
singing welcome, welcome to this place.
You're invited to come and know God's grace.
All are welcome the love God to share
'cause all of us are welcome here;
all are welcome in this place.

3 Let's dream together of the day
when earth and heaven are one,
a city built of love and light,
the new Jerusalem,
where our mourning turns to dancing,
every creature lifts its voice,
crying welcome, welcome to this place.
You're invited to come and know God's grace.
All are welcome the love God to share
'cause all of us are welcome here;
all are welcome in this place.

1 We are one in the Spirit,
we are one in the Lord,
we are one in the Spirit,
we are one in the Lord,
and we pray that all unity
may one day be restored:

Refrain:
And they'll know we are Christians
by our love, by our love;
yes, they'll know we are Christians
by our love.

2 We will walk with each other,
we will walk hand in hand,
we will walk with each other,
we will walk hand in hand,
and together we'll spread the news
that God is in our land:
[Refrain]

3 We will work with each other,
we will work side by side,
we will work with each other,
we will work side by side,
and we'll guard human dignity
and save human pride:
[Refrain]

4 All praise to the Father,
from whom all things come,
and all praise to Christ Jesus,
God's only Son,
and all praise to the Spirit,
who makes us one:

1 Will you come and follow me
If I but call your name?
Will you go where you don't know
And never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown,
Will you let my name be known,
Will you let my life be grown
In you and you in me?

2 Will you leave yourself behind
If I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind
And never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare
Should your life attract or scare?
Will you let me answer prayer
In you and you in me?

3 Will you let the blinded see
If I but call your name?
Will you set the prisoners free
And never be the same?
Will you kiss the leper clean,
And do such as this unseen,
And admit to what I mean
In you and you in me?

4 Will you love the 'you' you hide
If I but call your name?
Will you quell the fear inside
And never be the same?
Will you use the faith you've found
To reshape the world around,
Through my sight and touch and sound
In you and you in me?

5 Lord, your summons echoes true
When you but call my name.
Let me turn and follow you
And never be the same.
In your company I'll go
Where your love and footsteps show.
Thus I'll move and live and grow
In you and you in me.

Welcome and *Call to Worship
Pastor Angie

One: In those days,
in the beginning,
Joseph and Mary traveled to Bethlehem.
He was to be registered,
and she was expecting a child.
The time came for Mary to give birth,
so she delivered her child,
wrapped him in bands of cloth
and laid him in a manger.
All: And the angels sang,
“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth, peace to all whom God favors.”
One: Let us worship our with-us God.
All: Let us sing songs of praise!

Joy to the World
George Frederic Handel, Lowell Mason, and Isaac Watts
© Public Domain | CCLI Song # 5663860

1 Joy to the world! The Lord is come
Let earth receive her King!
Let every heart prepare Him room
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven, and heaven and nature sing.

2 Joy to the earth! The Savior reigns
Let men their songs employ
While fields and floods
Rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

3 No more let sins and sorrows grow
Nor thorns infest the ground
He comes to make his blessings flow
Far as the curse is found
Far as the curse is found
Far as, far as the curse is found.

4 He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love
And wonders of His love
And wonders, wonders of His love.

1 O come, O come, Emmanuel,
and ransom captive Israel,
that mourns in lonely exile here
until the Son of God appear.

Refrain
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel shall come to thee,
O Israel.

2 O come, thou Wisdom from on high,
and order all things far and night;
to us the path of knowledge show
and cause us in her ways to go.
[Refrain]

3 O come, O come great Lord of might,
who to thy tribes on Sinai's height
in ancient times once gave the law
in cloud and majesty and awe.
[Refrain]

4 O come, thou Root of Jesse's tree,
an ensign of they people be;
before thee rulers silent fall;
all peoples on thy mercy call.
[Refrain]

Lighting the Christ Candle
One: In a weary and worn world,
how do we begin again?
Where do we start?

All: Let us begin with hope.
Let us begin with peace.
Let us begin with joy.
Let us begin with love.

One: Yes, let us begin with love, for
surely love knows your name.
Today, in addition to the candles of hope,
peace, joy, and love, we light the Christ
Candle.
For surely God is in this place.
Surely the Spirit is near.
Surely love knows our name.

All: May we rest in that good news.
Unto us a child is born.
A light shines in the darkness and the
darkness cannot overcome it.
Glory to God in the highest heaven!
Amen.

O Little Town of Bethlehem
Phillips Brooks and Lewis Henry Redner
© Public Domain | CCLI Song # 27879

1 O little town of Bethlehem,
how still we see thee lie;
above thy deep and dreamless sleep
the silent stars go by.
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
the everlasting light;
the hopes and fears of all the years
are met in thee tonight.
2 For Christ is born of Mary,
and gathered all above,
while mortals sleep, the angels keep
their watch of wondering love.
O morning stars together,
proclaim the holy birth,
and praises sing to God the King,
and peace to all on earth!
3 How silently, how silently,
the wondrous gift is given;
so God imparts to human hearts
the blessings of his heaven.
No ear may hear his coming,
but in this world of sin,
where meek souls will receive him, still
the dear Christ enters in.
4 O holy Child of Bethlehem,
descend to us, we pray;
cast out our sin, and enter in,
be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels
the great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us,
our Lord Emmanuel!

Away in a Manger
James Ramsey Murray
© Public Domain | CCLI Song # 7002203

1 Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
the little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.
The stars in the sky looked down where he lay,
the little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.

2 The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
but little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes;
I love thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
and stay by my cradle till morning is nigh.

3 Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask thee to stay
close by me forever, and love me, I pray;
bless all the dear children in thy tender care,
and fit us for heaven to live with thee there.

1 Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the new-born King;
peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!"
Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
join the triumph of the skies;
with th'angelic host proclaim,
"Christ is born in Bethlehem!"
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the new born King!"

2 Christ, by highest heaven adored;
Christ, the everlasting Lord;
late in time behold him come,
offspring of a virgin's womb.
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see;
hail th' incarnate Deity,
pleased with us in flesh to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel.
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the new-born King!"

3 Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Sun of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
risen with healing in his wings.
Mild he lays his glory by,
born that we no more may die,
born to raise us from the earth,
born to give us second birth.
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the new born King!"

Joy to the World

Dear Friends,

Thank you for choosing to celebrate Christmas at Livingston United Methodist Church. May this time of worship and song bless you, and may the gift of the Christ child, God-with-Us continue to pour love and peace into your life throughout the coming year.

You are always welcome at Livingston!
Invitation to Holy Communion
Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him, who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another. Therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another.

Unison Prayer of Confession
Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Words of Forgiveness
Hear the good news: Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; that proves God’s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! Glory to God. Amen.

The Great Thanksgiving
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

…the prayer continues

…And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn.
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

…the prayer continues

…in union with Christ’s offering for us we proclaim the mystery of faith.
Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.

…the prayer continues

Through your Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy church, all honor and glory is yours, almighty God, now and for ever. Amen.

And now, with the confidence of being children of God, let us pray:
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Receiving the Bread and Cup

Unison Prayer after Communion
Eternal God, we give you thanks for this holy mystery in which you have given yourself to us. Grant that we may go into the world in the strength of your Spirit, to give ourselves for others, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
