Our hymns and songs usually portray Jesus as a sweet itinerate country preacher sharing God’s good news to the lost and the least. We have a tough time seeing Jesus mad at anyone. This Sunday we are with Jesus in the Temple and he has a whip in hand, lashing out at businessmen who are making a killing on an important Jewish ritual. Every Jew had to bring or buy a sacrificial animal for Passover and offer it to the priest. The money changers took Roman coins and reduced their purchasing power by up to 50%. Therefore, the profit margin was enormous. This made Jesus furious. The whole religious system was corrupt and Jesus let them know His feeling about it.
His message to them and to us today is that we are to worship the Lord God with all our heart, soul and mind. And anything that prevents true worship makes Jesus mad.
If Jesus came to our church, would He be pleased, frustrated or angry with our worship service? Are we truly worshiping God or just going through the motions? It’s something for us to think and pray about, isn’t it?
We look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday, March 4th at 10:30 am.
Please join us; we’ll have a seat waiting for you!
